Mary Sue, Marty Stu, and Hood Ornaments

No one wants to RP with a Mary Sue, a Marty Stu, or a Hood Ornament. But if you are new to roleplaying, you might not know exactly what these are. This post is designed to help you understand what they are, and in the process, how to avoid creating a character which is one.

Basically, a Mary Sue/Marty Stu character is someone who everyone likes, who has no faults, and who unrealistically gets out of difficult situations with little or no trouble.

Because this is a fairly in-depth topic, I am providing you with several links which do an excellent job of explaining these terms and helping you identify characters which fall under one of the categories. Please take the time to read at least the "What is a Mary Sue/Marty Stu?" and the "What is a Hood Ornament?" sections if you do not know what they are already.
